Every theme has a detailed theme description page like this one at https://wordpress.com/themes/canard/ That’s where set up instructions for it are found. The live demo site is at https://canarddemo.wordpress.com/

If you want full post to display select a theme that is designed to display them. All themes are unique. Some are designed to display full posts on the front page but newer themes are not so designed.

You have two choices (1) select another theme (2) use the excerpt function knowing that the HTML will NOT be active ie. this suggestion doesn’t work with objects inserted via a shortcode (videos, polls, audio players etc).

On any theme with an active excerpt box below the editor box you can use this workaround to have full posts on the front page. You compose your whole post first and before you publish it you switch to the HTML (Text) editor, copy all the code, paste it into the Excerpt box below the posts editor, and publish the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/#creating-excerpts

If you do not see an excerpt box then go to screen options on the top right hand corner of your Admin page and include all the modules:
Post – Likes and Shares, Format, Categories, Tags, Excerpt, Send Trackbacks, Discussion, Comments, Slug, Author, Revisions, Writing Helper

    re: switching themes

Note that switching themes https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#switch-themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site. Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do a lot of work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme with different features and/or if you have done any CSS editing.

Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.

The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.

P.S. Be aware that there has been a mobile and tablet explosion and many visitors do not want to load full posts. It takes too long and crashes their browsers. They want post titles that clearly describe what is in a post and a brief excerpt on the front page. They will click the continued reading, read more, etc. links to read only the posts they are interested in.
