Content suddenly unavailable for our online comic…

  • Unknown's avatar

It seems our content is missing or maybe our account is not working properly, or our has been possibly suspended?!? Really not sure what is happening here, but if there is an objection to our content I would’ve thought some sort of warning upfront would’ve occurred. We have enjoyed using WordPress to host our graphic novel. We do have a small dedicated following on Facebook. Two panels did have partial nudity in them but that was part of the story itself. Please contact me ASAP so i can at least get a handle on what’s happening here. Thanks, Vincent Dougherty and Ellen Sullivan – Illustrator and Writer for HELSIG.

•Post content that promotes pedophilia, such as blogs with galleries of images of children where the images, content surrounding the images, or the intent of the blog is sexually suggestive.

There is no warning notice page provided here. You crate a static front page and post one of your own making on it.

Also you can go to the front of your blog and click the “report blog” link in the dropdown to report it to Staff as “mature”. For details re: mature content blogs.

Thanks timethief for your response. I did read the TOS. I do think that it is an overboard response to block over 60 odd pages of comic because 2 panels toward the very end of the comic show a women’s breast. This is a graphic novel, and in nature is going to be adult, as are most blogs. So, I think they some what overreacted. They simply could’ve blocked the offending pages, or contacted us. Considering that we were doing promotion on Facebook to promote our comic they’re timing to say the least sucks. Also the first panel containing any partial nudity was published 2 weeks ago. Are they this slow to react?

  • Unknown's avatar

There was nothing explicit or sexual in those panels… i just think someone had a hissy fir and really should not be let lose on wordpress…

  • Unknown's avatar

So it appears that for what ever reason all of our material has been pulled down. I would like an ADMIN to explain in detail the EXACT reasoning behind this. Were we flagged as offensive? Is there an issue with the theme we are using? Earlier I offered a possible reason (above). Now I want that confirmed from someone more official than a member.

and as always. thank you. — Vincent

okay our content is back… thank you powers that be

  • Unknown's avatar

Did anyone else have problems with their content yesterday? Was this a WordPress issue, or just our site? While our content is back up, I’m curious if anyone else was having an issue yesterday as well.

  • Unknown's avatar

Just to be clear about this your blog was never blocked for me. I could access it instantly both yesterday. It’s possible you had a completely different issue.

Sometimes bloggers claim WordPress.com has blocked their site when in fact they have either browser related issues or connectivity issues. To be sure that your browser and connectivity settings are not problematic you can work through what follows.

    1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.

    2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view

    3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/

    (a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050

If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
    http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
    http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/How-To-Clear-Browsing-Data-In-Chrome-For-Ipad_6.htm

    (b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
    http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654

    (c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily. Be sure you do not have ad blockers, privacy browsing settings or programs like Ghostery running and try connecting again.

    (d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions

    4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.

    5. Know that security program updates and firewall updates can also give rise to issues that prevent you accessing sites so disable them temporarily and try connecting again.

    6. 5. Try using another browser.

Thanks for responding, do appreciate your help timethief. Our issue was widely reported from different locations in the U.S. on different platforms. So it t’was not a browser issue in one location. Besides that I’ve been a web designer/developer for over 15 years. So clearing the cache was the first thing I did, believe me I was hoping that was the issue. The issue, beyond the page you could see yesterday, was the the sixty odd pages of comic that was MIA until 10:20 CST last night. When you went to any other link you would get an “oops, content does not exist” default page.

    trust me it was weird…

    Hi Vincent,

I want to assure you that WordPress.com staff did not make any changes to your site. According to our records, your WordPress.com account deleted a number of comics from the site several days ago, and a page was deleted from the site about 2 days ago. Those are the only recent changes on your site.

If you didn’t do that yourself, please update your account password to make sure someone else isn’t able to log in to your account without your knowledge. We have tips for choosing a secure password here: Selecting a Strong Password

You may also want to add two-step authentication for added security: Two Step Authentication

If any of your content is still missing, or if this happens again, please let me know exactly what is missing (including as much information about the comics as you can) and I can investigate this for you.

Wow. Thanks, rachelmr. We are taking your advice to heart. Thank you for your time.

Okay rachelmcr, new issue. The Panel theme is not displaying the “Next” button to forward the user on to the next page of content even though it is published. We had to resort to placing all our content onto one page this weekend in order to update our comic. This was the initial problem we had last week right before all our content started not showing up.

Soooo …. in looking at the code and doing a comparision to code from 4 weeks ago when everything was functioning just fine, I noticed that the caption id tag was missing… is this breaking things?

My other thought is this a CSS issue with this particular theme?

    Thanks!

    Hi Vincent,

I am seeing the buttons appear correctly when I visit your site. On the latest comic, you won’t see a “Next” button (since it’s the latest one) — you’ll only see the “Prev” button to go to the previous comic. However, you should see both the “Next” and “Prev” buttons on the other comics.

If that’s not working for you, can you please make a screenshot of what you see when you visit your site? You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy. That will help me understand what’s going on.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey Rachelmcr,

Here let me explain as best I can. I post 3 comic pages, Page 1, Page 2 and Page 3. The “Next” button will appear on Page 1 which will function and forward you to Page 2. Page 2 for some reason does show a “Next” button, thus preventing you from going forward to page 3. Page 3 becomes orphaned. This just started happening Sept 7 as we were trying post, our fall back was to put all our content on one page.

It occurred again on Sept 20th, we employed our fall back of posting everything to one page again.

This is a bit frustrating, especially considering that if I could get at the code I could most likely debug and solve this.

    Thanks for your time.

    Hi Vincent,

I’m sorry for the trouble. Since I haven’t been able to see the issue you’re experiencing, I’m not sure what’s causing the glitch. Can you send me a link to a page that’s missing the “Next” button? That will help us investigate this for you.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey Rachel,

Here you go. I posted three test pages with normal content.

Go to the site and start here:
    http://helsigcomix.wordpress.com/comic/epilogue-part-1-week-24-page-1-of-6/

Next button takes you to the first test page:
    http://helsigcomix.wordpress.com/comic/test-page-1/

There is no “Next” button on the first test page to take you to the second test page:
    http://helsigcomix.wordpress.com/comic/test-page-2/

There is no “Next” button on the second test page to take you to the third test page:
    http://helsigcomix.wordpress.com/comic/test-page-three/

Hopefully this gives you something to work with. Thanks for all your efforts.

    –Vincent
