content theft vs reblogging
-
Hi, I have just finished reading answers to other inquiries about reblogging and now realize that someone on wordpress.com has been lifting content from one of our blogs and republishing it in a way that is not reblogging. They have done this not once but many times. When they do this, they take the entire post, image and full text, and republish it the same day ours is published. They retag it and republish it with their own social media buttons and they get all the likes and shares to their post. However, they add “/The Real Deal”, which is our blog name, to their title. At the same time they put a link at the bottom of the post that says “via” and links to our original blog post at
http://sbtrealdeal.wordpress.com/2013/04/06/top-10-tips-to-sell-your-business-and-not-leave-money-on-the-table/ on April 6.So they are not hiding what they are doing, but what they are doing is not right. I don’t know what this would be labelled as if I were to report it.
The offending post and site is
http://theaffluentboomer.wordpress.com/2013/04/06/top-10-tips-to-sell-your-business-and-not-leave-money-on-the-table-the-real-deal/What should we do?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You go to that offending blog, and you click on the name on the Admin bar, and on the drop-down menu that appears, you click Report This Content, then you Report As Spam, then you put in ALL the relevant information: each of your posts, plus each of theirs, direct links. And a link to this thread.
Their blog will be suspended SO fast if what you’ve said is accurate.
-
Unfortunately what you’ve said is not accurate: only your first paragraph is republished, and the “Continue reading” link links to your blog, not theirs.
But you’re right in that they create their posts as regular posts: they don’t use the reblog button, to avoid displaying your avatar and the clear marking “Reblogged from The Real Deal” that would automatically show up. That’s what this blog systematically does: it’s a scraper blog that relies exclusively on content from other blogs.

Thank you for the direction. It looks like they have a history of this. I see that this blog only goes back to early February of this year yet I knew that I had seen earlier examples of their use of our content other than our last two posts in March and April. When I dug back into the comments section of our earlier posts, I found pingbacks to a blog called RETIRING BOOMER, an earlier version of their current AFFLUENT BOOMER, which lists as contributors the RETIRING BOOMER, the AFFLUENT BOOMER and THE SUCCESSFUL BOOMER. However, it seems that retiringboomer.wordpress.com is no longer available!
I will follow up. Thank you.
