Content Width

No matter which “theme” I select, the content section of my blog appears at roughly one half the width as shown in the theme thunbnail.
This causes my posts to appear overly thin … rather silly looking.
Is there a setting on the dashboard that addresses this?

No. All fixed-width themes have …fixed width. But at the moment you’re using Treba, one of the narrower ones. This will give you some idea of relative widths:

How big can my images be?

I tried Ambiru with the exact same result.

    What is your screen resolution?

That’s because ambiru and treba are about the same width. Look at the link pan suggested. The bigger images you can place in the posts, the wider the post area.

There are also some flexible width themes.

One thing I suggest keeping in mind is that there are still a good number of people out there who are using 800 x 600 monitor resolution and the majority are only on 1024 x 768, so you have to keep those people in mind. When I come upon a blog, or a website where I have to scroll horizontally to see the entire page (because they have designed their pages for big monitors with high resolution), I simply go elsewhere and don’t waste my time. My site is designed for 1024 x 768 and I still get complaints quite regularly from people at 800 x 600 that don’t like having to scroll horizontally.
