-
I have two blogs with a different theme on each. One of them, https://comeinsitdown.wordpress.com, has a Twenty-Twelve theme (I think). So when I click on a certain category, all the posts in it are displayed on the page. About 3 lines of text followed by Continue Reading link by default, per each post. I am quite happy with this setup.
However, my other blog, https://websaladbar.wordpress.com, has a Reddle Theme that originally didn’t even have a Menu Bar at the top so I built it. When I click on a category, the posts are displayed alright. However, to my dismay, the entire post is displayed, no matter how long, and the Continue Reading link is nowhere to be found.
How do I fix this? I want my Continue Reading link where it belongs, in the category display, by default like it appears in the Twenty Twelve theme. I however want it this way in the Reddle Theme.
I am aware of how to set up ‘Read more’ tag, but this isn’t what I’m looking for. I want the Continue Reading link to be set up at the end of three lines of each, across all my posts versus having to do this manually for each post.
Thank you

Thanks for your reply, and yes, I did look into it. I guess there’s no other way around this issue in certain themes, so I’m manually inserting this link into each of my posts.
Would love to have this done by default automatically, like in my other blog with a different theme, but tough luck.
Thanks again

You’re most welcome.
Did you happen to look at this support document?

Are you set on using that specific theme? I came across a forum question that listed different themes that use excerpts. It’s an older question, so things may have changed a bit, but I could send that link to you, too.

I am going to look at the document you’re referring to, right now.
After my latest discovery, I am stuck on using my current themes, oh yeah. Am not ready to discover yet another subtle difference. As far as customization goes, I am pretty much at the square one.
I just blogged about it https://websaladbar.wordpress.com/2016/08/22/todays-prompt-fifty-blog-customization-how-to-insert-read-more-link/

Mariah dear,
Can you please send me a link to the forum you’re talking about. Now I’m curious, what themes use excerpts.
Thanks again

Surely. The link is…

Keep in mind how old the question is, so things could have changed, or even be retired themes. Just happened to come across the info while looking it to excerpts for ya. ;)
I totally understand the hesitation in changing your theme. You know you can test drive the themes before activating them, right? Also, just so you know, the theme you have on https://comeinsitdown.wordpress.com/ is Twenty Ten.
Best of luck.
