Continuity During Domain Transfer

    Can I create a full website and then do the domain transfer or do I have to do it while creating the website? I have a current website that I want to change over to WordPress, but I don’t want there to be a gap in between where the website is not functioning properly.

    Hi there,

    When you created your site with us, we already created a free address for you, http://secretcookies.wordpress.com/. You can work on your site at that address (or if you’re planning a completely new site, at that site’s free address), and only transfer your domain to us once you’re ready to make the switch.

    Additionally, when you transfer a domain to us, it will still be pointed at your current web host – we don’t automatically switch a domain’s DNS to us when it’s transferred, so the domain will continue showing the current site through the transfer process and after, until you explicitly make that change.
