Controlling the format of image attachment pages?
-
I’ve noticed that my blog seems to have two different formats for image attachment pages, and I haven’t been able to figure out what determines which one pops up. It doesn’t SEEM to be file type, or image size, or html code in the post; I assume I’m missing something. I like one better than the other, so would like to be able to control this. What am I missing, and what can I do?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
The theme you are on, Twentyten, supports post formats, which leads me to believe the ability to edit post formats is what you’re looking for. This section in particular of the Editing Post Formats support page should walk you through the problem.
Let me know if this doesn’t work out and we’ll try something else!
Good luck,

Well, not so sure. If I click on “edit” on the attachment page post, I am taken to the wp-admin screen, to edit the media, not the post. I don’t normally change the post format of the original post. I’m trying to track down the cause of the variation in the format of the attachment page, first of all – I think that if I could figure that out, I could figure out what to do about it. So far, haven’t been able to track it down. I don’t vary things on my end, as far as I can tell.
The one thing I’ve noticed is that the urls are sometimes /jp-carousel-nnnn, and at others /filename. This can be the case for the SAME IMAGE. That is, Image X may show up as myblog/jp-carousel-nnnn when attached to one post, and as myblog/image-file-name when attached to another one. And again, as far as I know, I’ve followed the identical procedure when posting – but perhaps I am wrong about this.
Possible cause of this???

Hi, @rehanne,
This sounds frustrating.
Are you able to provide the URLs to the specific posts with the differing pictures? It sounds to me like it may be the setting of Open link in a new window/tab in the Advanced Image settings.
But that is difficult to tell without being able to see examples.
Image Settings: https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-settings/
Advanced Image Options: https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-settings/#advanced-options -
Here’s an example:

vs.
https://hermeneutrix.wordpress.com/2017/07/07/questions-for-reflection-and-discussion-isaiah-61-8/I don’t purposely change the settings; I just go to the wp-admin screen and click on “open in new window/tab” – had assumed the url would just follow along – so might need to pay attention to this …

Hi, @rehanne,
I see that they both are set to open a new tab. The second one is set up as a single image gallery. That appears to be the difference.
Gallery Info: https://en.support.wordpress.com/gallery/
If you test out looking at the posts, in Edit view. Test clicking on the images to Edit, do they bring up the same screen? I’m thinking one should bring up and Image Editor, and the other will bring up a Gallery Editor. If that is the case, we know the difference. :)
Let me know if this helps at all.

I think we are getting closer. Actually, clicking on the images to edit doesn’t pull up different edit screens. But, the image that displays as a gallery does seem to have gotten attached as a “custom url” rather than as an attachment page – at least that’s what comes up on the editor. I finally copied the html from both of these pages to make a direct comparison; the hrefs are different. I’m sure you’re right that somehow the Gallery option is involved, I just don’t know what I’m doing to invoke it, because I like the gallery format better. Will keep working on this.

Hi, @happathometoday,
Not quite, but definitely getting closer. I just changed the html in the post to the html that was working; today, am going to work on getting it to work properly from the beginning. Will use your info about the gallery settings. Thank you for your help!!
