Controlling the way a link to a post displays when one shares to social media
-
Sometimes when I share a post to FB, Twitter etc, the link displays with a tiny image on the left and the extract text on the right.
Sometimes the image is large, with the text beneath. (Preferred.)
In either case I have not selected a “featured image” as this repeats the image at the top of the post, which is a nuisance.
Does it depend on the size and number of the images in the post?
How does WP select the image to be displayed if there are several?
Since this is an art blog, images are important. I’d like to know how to ensure that I get the large image displayed with the text below.
Thanks for any help. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
We don’t control which image is used. That is controlled by the respective social media services. Our system makes a suggestion, but the final decision is not ours.
The images we suggest are used are, in order, the featured image, another suitable image in the post, or the site icon. The size of the image itself is also a factor. You can see this page for more details:

You can prevent that from happening via the Content Options in the Customizer. Go to My Sites ->Customize ->Content options and unselect the “Display on single posts” option under the Featured Images heading.

Thanks for your response @kokkieh. Very helpful. I was able to find and customise the “featured image” options for this blog, and now have a much better idea of how to size images optimally for sharing on social media.
I have another blog on this account using the “Sketch” theme. It also has the “featured image” option, but I can’t find any way to customise it.

Any tips? -

https://wonderingmindstudio.com/Sketch doesn’t support the Content Options feature, so there’s no way to control where featured images will appear.
