Conversations

I’m not sure if this is the correct sub-forum for this issue, so feel free to move it to the appropriate one if necessary.

I’ve been wondering this for a while now and have been unable to locate an answer, hence my post here.

The relatively new “Conversations” function. I think it’s a great concept, but the the product as a whole isn’t. My most important question – Is there a setting menu for these conversations? What I mean is that I wish I could sort them ex. chronologically. Instead, I see a complete mess of useless threads. And the one I’m looking for is too far down for me to keep scrolling. If the answer is no, then maybe it would be a good idea to think about it. Settings, which we could use to order the conversations in a way we would like them.

Second – is there a setting that we can opt out of the conversations being saved to the conversations menu UNLESS we specifically choose a conversation? Again, there’s a lot of conversations which I do not care to follow, and since I happen to interact quite a bit with other bloggers, Unchecking the follow conversation button is a chore and I mostly give up. And the ones I want to follow get lost.

To conclude, great concept, but totally useless to me at the moment. If we had some settings to customize this it would be a game changer.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

What I mean is that I wish I could sort them ex. chronologically. Instead, I see a complete mess of useless threads.

Conversations are ordered based on the most recent comment on a particular post. That is the most recent comment from anyone, not when you commented on a post.

Second – is there a setting that we can opt out of the conversations being saved to the conversations menu UNLESS we specifically choose a conversation?

We don’t have such an option, but I will relay this feedback to the Reader team so they can look into it.

Thanks for getting back to me, kokkieh.

ad.1 – Yes, I’m aware. I use its use. I just wish I was able to toggle it myself.

ad.2. – That’s too bad. Thank you for passing it along.

Even though this didn’t solve my problems, I appreciate your response and I can now figure out a way to deal with it on my own. Thanks.

In what way do you want to toggle it yourself? It would help to know exactly how you’d prefer to order the conversations.

I wish I had a choice to sort it either the way it is (last response on top), or by the date of MY response (and/or maybe date of when the blog post was published). I realize this might be complicated. To me, both settings could be useful in different situations.

(And as far as the second part, maybe adding a check box under the comment box to opt into following a conversation would be great. If left unchecked, it does not go into your “Conversations”. If checked, it saves for your “Conversations”. That way you can focus on the comment section you care about more. Personally, if this was implemented, the first half of my suggestion/ issue about reordering the feed would be less crucial.)

  • Thanks for the extra info. I’ll pass that along to the team responsible for this feature :)
