CONVERSION from '.com' to '.org'.

I am planning on converting from wordpress.com to wordpress.org. I am tecnologically limited. Yes, I admit it. I plan on using blue host, jetpack & vault press. How are the everyday workings concerning posting and blog maintenance different/more complicated then ‘.com’?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there! You’re funny :)

Once you get your self-hosted site configured and launched, posting and maintenance should not be more complicated than at WordPress.com.

It sounds like you’re all set with the steps of the move to a WordPress.org site, but if you need further documentation, please click the link below. This guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much and best of luck with the self-hosted site!

Thank you for your response! The info. you provided was most helpful! Now when I sign up with blue host for my domain which I know I must do first before getting started, but blue host offers many options along with the domain name. Which options should I sign up for/avoid?
And for security should I get ‘vault press’ or the security blue host offers?
    Thanks again!

Hey Joe! Good to hear from you.

What kind of options are you being offered? If it’s a question of space, you’ll have to think about how much media, and how many large files, you’ll want to store there.

Many domain packages come with email addresses, which could help.

I also suggest a Private Domain registration. That will keep spammers/marketers from being able to access your contact info, which would otherwise be public.

I know I am biased, but I think VaultPress is terrific. And it’s so easy to configure because you’ll be using WordPress as your blogging platform. Here’s a review of VaultPress:

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else!

One more question for now & then I’ll be out of your wonderfully curly hair. :)
For a ‘happiness engineer’ to transfer my ‘.com’ blog over to ‘.org’, attain jetpack & vaultpress, how do I request these services upon transfer?
This should be it for now, but if I do have anymore questions can I once again ask you, Ms. ThatRobyn? You’ve been so helpful! Thank you!

Hi again Joe! If you’d like a guided transfer from .com to .org, you can visit your Store in your Dashboard. You’ll find the option at the bottom of the Store page.

Best of luck with the transfer and the self-hosted site! If you have questions before you make the move, let me know.

Afterward, the awesome WordPress.org team can assist.

    Wishing you the best :)
