convert a wordpress blog to a website
-
I have a friend (not very computer literate) who has a wordpress blog that a customer set up for him. He wants to expand it to be a website to support his travel business, and to upgrade it to have a non-wordpress domain name.
The landing page is beautiful – what is needed is to move the blog to its own link and to add links for business details.
I am an experienced programmer but have never used WordPress. I just tried creating a toy website, but I can see that it will take forever to figure out how to do this.
Is what he wants to do possible? Can you point me to the documentation I need to do this for him?
Thanks. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Let me try and help you out. The great thing about WordPress.com is it can be used for multiple different websites, including a travel business.
Wants to upgrade it to have a non-wordpress domain name.
Custom domains can be purchased through/on WordPress.com at a price, or with a plan, and you can learn more about them here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
I’ve tagged “modlook” as this part of your question is related to domains.
What is needed is to move the blog to its own link
Usually, by default, the front page displays the recent blog posts, but this can be updated on WordPress.com. Instead, you can have a “static front page”, which could be the beautiful landing which you have designed, and then have a separate page for blog posts.
As such, a separate link (wanderingthewebwithtony.wordpress.com/whichever-page-slug-you-choose) will display the posts/blog. You can learn more about setting that up here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
Other tips on static pages can be found here: tps://wordpress.com/go/business-website-guidance/what-is-a-static-front-page/
Add links for business details
There are several ways you can go about this, and it’s really just up to preference. One of the most common is on the sidebar, as it is easily accessible, and you can do several things with it. I’ve listed some here, but there are plenty of other ways to add links to business details, so let me know if you need something specific.
Google Maps Widget: https://en.support.wordpress.com/google-maps/
Contact Forms: https://en.support.wordpress.com/forms/contact-form/
Making phone number “clickable”: https://wordpress.com/go/build/make-a-phone-number-clickable/
Contact Info Widget: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/contact-info/Alternatively, you could create a separate page for details, or perhaps even both. You may need hyperlinks if you intend on using a page, so this may come of use to you: https://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
I hope that this clarifies everything, let me know if you need any help. Good luck!
