Convert SQL to working XML file?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to move a zipped sql backup of a WP blog hosted on its own server (which I don’t have any login/access to anymore) to a free WP blog. I found an xml converter that converted the sql file to xml, but when trying to import it to my WP.com blog, it keeps saying it’s an invalid wrx file. Most of the posts in the forum about this suggest to install WP, import the sql dump there, then export it as xml. But this post helped the poster get a working xml file: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=21390&replies=12. Would it be possible to get the same kind of help he did? Or know exactly how the sql file was converted to an xml file that works when imported into the blog? Thanks.

I can do that – send the zipped file to Support.

    How do I do it?
I install MAMP (Mac) or Xampp (PC) on the computer
    This creates a server
    I then install WordPress
I upload your database file to the empty database, make a couple of changes (the admin password / the site url) point the WordPress install at it and run upgrade.
    And then export the file.
I upload the file to some webspace and send you the url
    That’s it.

Regarding the password – I have to alter that or I cannot get into the blog to export the new file. It has no bearing at all on your blog here.

And once you tell me the blog is all good I delete all the files.

Hello Mark, and thank you very much for your response. Sorry for the delay in replying, but after reading how you convert the file, I know I’d still be needing your help on this. I sent the zipped file to Support. Please let me know if there is anything else you’d need for this.
