converting a page to a post or a post to a page…

So despite posting for some time I have not been terribly prolific. As such I am only now figuring out the difference between posts and pages. What I wanted to do was to create several pages each for a particular topic and then have multiple posts on that page. Having read the support pages that seem relevant, it appears that is not how this is supposed to be used and that I should use categories instead. So now I want to consolidate my pages in to one or to separate several of my posts to new pages preserving the dates. This brings me to my quetions:

1: Is it not possible to have multiple pages that have multiple posts?

2: How can I convert an existing page to a post maintaining its publication date?

3: How can I convert a post to a page maintaining its publication date?

I welcome any and all suggestions on other ways to manage my blog
    Thank you

    1. No, not really. The way to separate and organize posts is by category. There are now a number of themes here that support the custom menu feature in wordpress, and with that you can add categories to your menus, with will give accomplish this though. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

    2. You would have to copy and past and then change the publication date: http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/schedule-a-post/ .

    3. Same as number two.

A note though. When you change a page to a post, the URL for that material is going to change (post URL’s have the date in them, pages do not) so by doing this you are going to be creating 404 errors for any of those pages or posts that the search engines have already indexed, and too many 404 errors can cause search engines to stop crawling your blog. In addition, visitors searching for your stuff on the web will get that error also and they might not stick around to try and find what they were looking for, they might just go back to the SE and select a different result. Just pointing this out and telling you to proceed with caution.
