Converting an already posted image to a featured image?
-
I’m considering a theme change. The new theme requires featured images. Is there a way to change an existing image in each of my current blog posts to a featured image without reloading the image? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If the images had been uploaded from your computer to your blog via the Add Media button of the post editor, you click the Add Media button, then click Gallery, click Show for the image in question, click “Use as featured image”.
If the images had been uploaded from your computer to your blog via Media > Add New, you click the Add Media button, then click Media Library, search for the image, click Show, click “Use as featured image”.
If the images are hosted elsewhere and had been inserted via URL, they need to be uploaded from your computer to your blog.By the way, some themes take advantage of featured images in interesting ways but no theme really requires featured images.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the tutorial. (And of course you’re right about the “required.” I should have said I’m considering a theme change where I would want to use the featured image configuration, not that I would have to use it.)

When I switched to a theme that used featured images, I only edited the ones on the front page and left all the rest. Too much work! I do wish there were a one-button “always use first image in the post as Featured Image” option.

Thanks Raincoaster, that’s a great idea, and I think the idea of a button would be great.
