Converting from Movable Type 4 to WordPress

  I’ve used both MovableType 4 and WordPress for awhile. The new MovableType (MT4); however, is a mess and I’m tired with the lose and/or lack of features, the endless hours trying to tweak it, etc. I really have never converted from one program to the other and wanted to find out if it is possible to convert everything over (including such things as tag) to WordPress. While I have been able to get things over to WP (on a test blog), I haven’t been able transfer tags over.

  There should be an export function within the MT interface. What you will want is an XML filetype. That will typically export all posts comments and categories. Any images you have in your posts will have to be transferred manually as they are not included in the exports.

  Make sure and remove any javascript, flash or iframes from your blog before you export it, and also delete any spams to make the process smoother.

  Tags I’m not so sure about. Obviously from what you say they do not import here and may have to be done manually.

  Thanks for the help. I’ll give the export function a try (again) – maybe I missed something.
