Converting site URL to the New domain I bought

    Hi! I purchased a domain and email address this morning that is different from my old URL. I assumed that would update this website to the new domain. It did not. So: knaadvisoryco.net which I purchased takes you to leadershipsavvy.wordpress.com which is the original URL for my wordpress. What can I do?

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

    Hi there!

    While you can purchase a domain without a plan, to have your domain be your primary domain, you need a paid plan. Otherwise, your domain will redirect to your free *.wordpress.com URL.

    Since you can get your domain for the first year free when you purchase an annual plan, I’ve added credits to your account equal to the domain cost that you can apply towards any plan level for an annual term. Then, you can set the new domain to be the one visitors see when they visit your site.

    Hi there,

    Currently, you custom domain knaadvisoryco.net is being forwarded to your subdomain leadershipsavvy.wordpress.com. I see you purchased the domain registration subscription without a paid plan which is great! However, a primary custom domain feature is only included with a paid plan on WordPress.com.

    If you are wanting to make knaadvisoryco.net the domain see in their address bar when they visit your site, I would recommend the Personal Plan. In addition to having the primary custom domain, you’ll also receive 5 extra GB of storage space to upload images and other media, the removal of ads for yourself and your site visitors, email support from our staff, and more.

    If your custom domain is not primary, people will still end up at your site if they type knaadvisoryco.net into the address bar. It’ll just forward to leadershipsavvy.wordpress.com.

But wondered if there is anyway to change leadershipsavvy.wordpress.com to knaadvisoryco.wordpress.com so that at least when people are redirected to the subdomain site, it is a similar URL to the one they’ve just typed (knaadvisoryco.net)? This may not be possible. Just checking!

    It’s totally possible to do as per these instructions https://wordpress.com/support/changing-site-address/

    Please be aware, that once the change is made it would no longer be possible to use leadershipsavvy.wordpress.com.
