converting to .org
-
Hi I have just started with a wordpress.com site and have been recommended to convert this to a .org website. Is this possible after I have just signed up as wp.com premium user? What steps are involved?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I generally advise people not to take on the extra work of switching to a self-hosted WordPress.org site unless they have a specific reason for doing so. For example a feature or functionality that is not available on WordPress.com.

That having been said, this guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:
If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

As it has not been 30 days since your purchase of WordPress.com Premium, I would be happy to refund your purchase less the domain registration (which is only refundable for 48 hours after purchase). But one would assume that you would prefer to keep your domain registration for use with your new site.

Okay, now I’m confused. I was told that if wanted to create a business on my blog then it should be a .org rather than a .com. Is this now correct?

That really depends on what you are trying to do. Many businesses have WordPress.com sites.
Are you trying to run an online ecommerce store? Then .org will give you a number of options that WordPress.com doesn’t. Though it is still possible to run an ecommerce store on WordPress.com with the Business upgrade. Are you just looking to have a web presence for your business? Then WordPress.com may be a better options for you due to our generally high SEO power and ease of use.

Thanks for that clarification. I do want to run some ecommerce – eBooks etc. some may be org is the way to go.

Let me know what you decide and I can help you with a refund of your WordPress.com Premium upgrade if needed.
-
Thank you Sir,
I would welcome the refund as you have suggested.
Thank you for your help.

Hello,
I’ve removed the Premium plan and issued a full refund as Josh offered. It may take a week for that refund to appear on your bank statement, but the refund’s receipt is available here:
https://wordpress.com/me/billing
I noticed you also have a Premium Theme, Hive, on your site. I did not remove and refund that yet, to make sure your site still appeared correctly for your readers until you switch to .org. We offer refunds for up to 30 days after the purchase, so I’ll be happy to remove and refund your Hive purchase, so long as you request it before April 21st.
You can purchase Hive from its theme developer to be used on your self-hosted site:

Thank you.

I’ve removed Hive from your site and issued a refund. It can take about a week for refunds to appear on a bank statement, but you can find a refund receipt in your billing history here:
