Cookie Banner

I new on WP and have just added my first two posts. I have noticed that the cookie banner won’t go, it just refreshes the page. I can see this will be annoying for people. I did see that someone else has a thread about this, but it has been marked as fixed, so I thought it best to start a new thread, so apologies if that is the wrong thing to do.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, annoying isn’t it. Lets hope someone at WordPress.com is working on this. I think it may be theme related as I can dismiss the Cookie Banner with a single click on some of my sites but not my main one (which admittedly has an old retired theme). That site is slow to load since the changes to the Cookie Banner too. Perhaps as you have a new site it could be worth at least trying a different theme?
PS: I can’t get rid of the Cookie Banner on my site logged in or logged out using Edge or Chrome.

Thanks, but I really don’t want to change the theme. That’s a compromise, not a fix.

    same problem here..
I changed also the banner theme to dark and not even that changes! It simply doens’t work.

I think this might be solved for me now as I read the other threads about this and realised I had the Widget for the Cookie Banner, and it’s advised to remove that because the banner is automatic from WP, and so I removed the widget, and the banner now closes as it should. But, I’d be grateful if someone could check it for me. Thank you

  • Hi there,

That banner is shown automatically for free sites, yes, and adding the widget in addition to that is causing the problems you are seeing. However, that is a bug on our end, and our developers are working on a fix.

Please subscribe to the thread at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cookie-banner-wont-go-away/ – we’ll post an update there once this is fixed.

Thank you. I think mine is fixed now that I’ve removed the widget, but I’ll keep an eye on the other thread for any updates about it. I’ll mark this thread as resolved now.
