Cookie banner covers elements when dismissed
-
Hello!
I am having a small nuisance with the default cookie banner (being on the free plan, it shows automatically).
First off, I am using the Orvis theme on my site (voyager006.wordpress.com) which puts the banner near the bottom of the screen. I can accept the cookie and dismiss the message all fine, but the area previously covered by the banner will, despite being dismissed, cover any buttons and clickable areas underneath. For example, when scrolled to the bottom on a desktop, the action bar and the social menu are partially covered. In fact, when the banner is visible, its area covers the part above it as well.

Hi there, I just checked on my PC using Chrome 67 and initially the social menu links and WordPress.com footer on your site’s front page, while visible, weren’t responsive immediately after dismissing the cookie banner. After a second or two they became responsive.
Regardless, I’ve gone ahead and tagged this thread for Staff attention. Please let us know what OS and browser you are using.

Thanks for the reply. I am running Vivaldi 1.15 on Windows 10, but I’ve tried with Chrome 67 and Edge 42 with the same results. Screen resolution is 1366×768. Another computer with Chrome 67 and Windows 10 shows the same behaviour too. Only the top part of the social menu buttons seem to be clickable once the banner is dismissed.

Hi there,
Thanks for the console screen shots – it helped me replicate this much faster than I would have otherwise. It appears that the div that places the banner on your page is still there even though it is styled as display: none after you dismiss it, and it happens across browsers for me.
I’ve reported the problem to our theme developers. Hopefully they’ll be able to fix this. I’ll let you know once I hear back from them.

Hey @voyager006!
Thanks for reporting this issue. It should now be fixed in the theme.
Just let us know if you have any questions, or run into anything else you need help with!
