Cookie Consent in Foreign Languages-RTL Issue

  Howdy! First of all a huge thanks for making the default cookie consent banner on free sites match the site language. That is very much appreciated!

  While surfing a Hebrew site, I noticed that the banner does have some issues as the text is not correctly aligned and the accept button should be on the left. (temp screenshot)

  Hi Jennifer,

  Can you please provide the URL of the site where this is happening? I tested this using several RTL languages on a test site, and the text is correctly aligned for me with all the languages I checked, including Hebrew.

  I have opened a bug report regarding the button’s positioning.

  Hi @kokkieh – I think it was on jacobress.wordpress.com, and I noted that the site uses both English and Hebrew so that might be the issue here.

  Thanks for reporting the issue of the accept button placement.

  The button positioning has been fixed.

  It looks like the alignment-issue might be a theme bug, so I’ve reported that to the theme team.

  Thanks for reporting this, @justjennifer!

  It looks like jacobress.wordpress.com is using MistyLook, a theme that’s been retired for a few years now. Due to its age, we won’t be making updates for new features like the cookies consent banner — we try to limit changes to retired themes to just security fixes.

  Hey @laurelfulford No worries. Thanks for keeping me updated.

  I seriously wish y’all would ping a notice in users’ dashboards on sites using retired themes. While I realize that no one is required to move to a newer theme, many people aren’t aware that things may break or not be updated as a result.

  I’ll go ahead and mark this issue resolved. Cheers!
