cookie law info

There are new politics in Europe. In Spain (and maybe other countries of Europe) we need to inform about cookies.
There is a plugin called “cookie law info”. Maybe that is enought. Other options is a floating window to inform users. Withs a button to acept.

The following is from our legal team:

We’re aware of the recent EU privacy directive and the related UK Cookie Law. As of now, the relevant authorities haven’t issued concrete guidance on the actions that are necessary to comply with the law. We’ll be watching as the situation develops and may make changes to our services in the future, if required.

For now – since sites hosted at WordPress.com do make use of cookies, you may like to flag this fact for visitors to your site. One way to do this is to add a text widget to your side bar and include a link to our privacy policy (which contains information on the cookies that we use). You might also inform your visitors that they can refuse all cookies by changing the settings of their browsers.

Our Privacy Policy can be found here:

Instructions for adding a text widget to your site can be found here:

Hi there. I’m interested in this topic too, from the perspective of the cookies that WordPress.com generates when someone with a WordPress.org site is using the Jetpack WordPress.com stats feature. I haven’t been able to find the cookie names anywhere and they are not identified by name in Automattic’s Privacy Policy. I suggest that the cookie names and functions for WordPress.com stats (and any other WordPress.com function) need to be listed somewhere to enable people in or serving European clients to adopt best practices in relation to cookie disclosures (which includes identifying the cookies by name).

In the meantime, is someone able to name what cookies (if any) are generated by Jetpack/WordPress.com Stats when used on a WordPress.org (self-installed) site?

    Many thanks for your help.
    Richard

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know that we haven’t forgotten about this question. However, we don’t have a list of cookies readily available, so it may take some time before we have those details you requested. Thanks for your patience! :)

Hi and thanks Rachel. It’s pretty interesting that Automattic doesn’t have a list of cookies readily available. I really do hope you’ll be able to provide such a list please. A world-leading CMS needs a world-class list of cookies :)
