Cookies assent not remembered

When visiting (not editing) my site on PC with Opera, I keep getting the “Privacy & Cookies” banner despite previously clicking “I Agree!”. The same happens when I navigate to a page on the site’s navigation bar. Opera is set to accept all cookies including third-party. My friends report the same using other browsers.

Hi there!
Thank you for reaching out.
I tested it on my computer but I am not able to reproduce it: https://d.pr/v/JrpAO7. It shows up only the first time. Please make sure you are testing it in a private window of a browser.
If it keeps happening on your end please verify if your browser is up to date, it can be checked here https://www.whatismybrowser.com/. Also, clear cache and cookies: https://wordpress.com/en/support/browser-issues/I hope it helps!

Thanks for that. Delving deeper, the issue seems to occur when visitors are redirected from http://www.suttonchess.org.uk/ to https://suttonchess.wordpress.com/
I’m very happy for WordPress to collect cookies and to insert ads, etc. But is there any way to stop my visitors being re-asked, over and over, about cookies every time?

Hi there!
Thank you for the details!
I noticed that you’re using the domain masking for your WordPress.com site.
That’s absolutely fine from our perspective, but I suspect that this might have something to do with the issue.
It might sound overwhelming, but could you upgrade your site to a monthly Personal plan and connect your domain to it?
💡 You can refund the upgrade during the first 7 days of the purchase.
During this week, you can test this and collect feedback from your peers regarding the Cookie consent banner. If the issue is gone, then it means that the domain masking is causing the issue. Otherwise, we’re happy to check it further 😊
You can upgrade to a monthly Personal plan from here:
Then, you can deactivate the auto-renewal feature, just to be certain it doesn’t renew automatically in case you forget to cancel for some reason (if the test proves that it’s not related to domain masking, that is).
And finally, you will want to connect the domain to your site:
If you already own a domain name with another provider, you can use that domain with your WordPress.com site. Once you complete the steps below, instead of your site address being something like yourgroovysite.wordpress.com, your site’s address will be something like yourgroovydomain.com. Follow the steps in this guide to keep your domain registered with your current provider and use it to showPlease let us know if you have any further questions! We’re happy to assist.
