Coptic script in wordpress
-
Hi, I just wonder if wordpress can add Coptic as one of the languages supported by the platform.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Hi there, I don’t see any community translation projects for that yet. Can you clarify: are you wanting a translation of the WordPress interface itself, or a translation of the elements on your site (like “read more” and what not)? You can read a bit about how that works here:
Or, are you keeping the site in one language but also just wanting to add text in Coptic to it?
-
I use English as medium in my blog but I often want to use Coptic text as other people use, e.g. Greek or Latin in addition to English. But Coptic script does not appear in the blog. I may want also want to make a completely Coptic blog – that’s all in Coptic.
The issue does not affect only me but many Coptologists who want to use your platform but are restricted by the fact that your platform does not support Coptic.
We had this issue before with Google but it is now sorted out.

I see — could you share here the script you’re using? If needed, you can press the code button before and after it so it doesn’t get removed from the forum.

It has not come up even after following your instructions. Anyway, there are several coptic fonts that are commonly used: Unicode, antonious, etc.
-
Hello there,
It looks like Antonious is a font that can perhaps power that for you.
I’ve done a search, and it looks like these can be downloaded here:
It is possible to use this font, but in order to do so the site would need to be on the business plan.
I hope this helps.
-
Thanks. But why it needs to be in the business plan when you support other languages in the non-buisness plan. If you add it, it will benefit academia, and you will get many to use your platform

Hello there,
Many thanks for getting back to me.
In all honesty, we seldom see a request for this language to integrated. I also checked Google translate, and it doesn’t look like it’s available there either.
But this doesn’t mean that it can be requested or built into the timeline.
If you’d like to get involved in the translation project, please take a look at the ins and outs involved here: https://translate.wordpress.com/faq/
I hope this makes sense.

It’s not included in Google translate but Google support Coptic and you can Google using Coptic.
It doesn’t cost you anything to make your platform supportive of Coptic as it is supportive of e.g. Greek, and people can use you platform to write Greek articles.
