Copy a _project_ (as opposed to a page)
-
I have a portfolio of a few book cover designs. I want to add more covers. Each cover in the portfolio page links to a “project” showing only the cover uncropped, along with a caption. Going forward, I want to use one project as a template for setting up new ones in order to keep a uniform layout. But I apparently can’t copy projects the way I can copy pages. Can someone explain why not?

Hi there,
The Copy feature is only available for posts and pages, not for custom post types like Portfolio projects.
As an alternative, if you use the block editor you can create a template by making re-useable blocks. If you save a block as a re-useable block, you can add that same block with it’s saved content to any new project you create in the editor.
To create a re-useable block, create a new block in the editor and add the content you want to it. Then click the … icon in the block toolbar, and select the option to add it to re-useable blocks. Next time you add a new block, that saved block will appear among the options you can add.

Thanks, kokkieh.
I’ve just made the re-usable block, but I don’t see how to replace the image that’s in the block with a new one. The point is to use the image as a placeholder for any new media I want to put in at the same size.

I understand. In that case, you’ll have to add a new image and size it manually each time – a re-useable block will not work for what you want.
