Copy a post
-
The ‘copy a post’ function I’ve been using for years – the sub-function of ‘Posts’ – suddenly stopped working. It used to supply a field where I could select from a list, or I could type in the post I want. That disappeared, and all I got was the usual ‘Add New Post’ screen.
I was forced to use a method I found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/copy-a-post/
which is WAY more cumbersome. It forced me to scroll down through a year’s worth of posts (over a hundred posts).
Did WordPress staff ‘improve’ copying posts by deleting the simple and fast method I prefer?

Hi there,
As you can see from the following screenshot the Copy a post feature works correctly when I create a new post.
Can you please try clearing your browser’s cache and try again? This will probably solve it.
If this doesn’t work or you have more questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help!

Hi Fstat:
I guess I’m using an (or THE) older editor version, which I’ve used since 2009. I reached the example screen you sent by clicking the “switch to the improved editor” link available at the top of my “Add New Post” screen. Previously the “Copy a Post” which is still listed in the left column under “Posts” worked. Now it doesn’t; it only takes me to the “Add New Post” screen, with no option for Copying available.I tried pasting in a screenshot, but it didn’t appear. Maybe this link will show you what I’m using & getting.

HI there,
You can upload the screenshot to your media library. When you do it, let me know so I can have a look.

OK, I managed to do that.
Titled: Screenshot COPY A POST 12-2-17
It’s the most recent item in my media library.
“Copy a post” is listed in left column.
“Switch to the improved editor” is in the line below “Add new Post.” -
Hi there,
Thanks for the screenshot. Can you please try and create a new post first and then click on the Copy a post option as shown in the following screenshot:
Let me know if this works or not.
Thanks!

I guess my recent lobotomy disconnected a little too much tissue.
As you no doubt surmised, my “Writing Helper” option within the posting was closed (little arrow pointing down, not UP). I clicked that and voilà, there was “Copy a Post.” Arrrrrgh!
It had always been open before, and the fact that there even was a “closed” position had escaped me for the last seven years. I must have clicked it inadvertently, closing it, and it stayed closed thereafter. Until now.
Many thanks for you kind assistance and your time. I learn something new every day.
