Copy a post from a Draft post seems to have gone missing

    I’ve stored a boilerplate post I use for many of my posts in the Draft posts area. Whenever I choose to ‘copy a post’, that post has always been listed. Until today. It isn’t listed, it can’t be searched in the ‘copy a post’ area, and the only way I can see it is to go into the Drafts section. Yes, I can copy it from there, but I only get the content, not the title (which I modify slightly each time) or the categories or tags, which I now have to add manually.

    Does anyone know if anything changed in the past week or so on WordPress.com about ‘copying a post’ if the post was a Draft?

    Yes, I’m still using the old interface to create posts as the new one doesn’t have the option to copy a post — a bad omission for those of us who want to save time writing similar posts.

    It was fine when I did this post: http://rhondabracey.com/2015/10/19/community-quilt-232/ on 19 Oct 2015, but missing when I did the next post in the series (http://rhondabracey.com/2015/11/01/community-quilt-233/) on 1 Nov 2015.

    Okay, I was able to copy from a draft just fine on my test site. I tried logging in as you. I saw just one draft, and I was able to search for it and copy it properly.

    Can you confirm that the post you’re trying to copy is still in Drafts? It should show up here:
    https://wordpress.com/drafts

    I’m wondering if you inadvertently edited the post directly and published it with a new title.

    Well, that’s really weird!!! There’s only one draft post (not the one I use as the boilerplate) there now — there were definitely two on 1 Nov when I was trying to do this (yes, I checked the Drafts list when the ‘copy a post’ didn’t work as usual).

    Perhaps I did edit that post directly…

    Anyhow, the post I want to copy from is NOT in the Drafts list now, which is likely why it’s not showing up in the ‘copy from’ list.

    5 minutes later… I rewrote my missing draft post, saved it as a draft, and can now see it in the ‘copy a post’ list.

    All solved — user error, no doubt! Thanks for your help.
