Copy A Post not working
-
Every time I hit ‘Copy a Post’ it takes me to the normal ‘New Post’ blank screen.
I’ve tried first checking off the post I want to copy, but the WP info page about CAP doesn’t imply that’s necessary, rather that I should be taken to a selection option. That doesn’t happen. I have Writing Helper on, as I see the option.
When I click it, the address bar shows https://jeloca.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php?cap#cap however, as I said, it’s just the blank Add New Post page. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
Jennifer

You are reporting a known issue in the new editor. Try the classic editor.
You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and for viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/

Actually I’m reporting this issue in the classic editor. I hate the new editor and never use it. If I click ‘edit’ on a post and it brings it up I automatically just open a new tab and go over to my wp-admin page.
I understand from the link you provided that Copy A Post is not a feature that will be/is included in the new editor. However it doesn’t say anywhere that it’s no longer able to be used in the classic one, which is the only one I use.

Really! Wow I didn’t catch that and I do apologize. I typed modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. I understand from the link you provided that Copy A Post is not a feature that will be/is included in the new editor.
It’s not so much that this feature was taken out. Calypso (the new framework) was built from scratch, and we’re still working to rebuild certain features. I’ve made note of your request for the Copy Post feature.
Until then, Copy Post is only available in wp-admin. Can you send me a link to the post you’re trying to copy, or tell me its title?

@timethief No worries :) I don’t think I actually specified it in my first post because I didn’t know it would make a difference which editor I was using.
@supernovia Hiya. It’s any of them. Take your pick.
So here’s what happens, and if I’m doing something wrong to get there or misidentified which editor or something let me know :)
-I go to wordpress.com, then click ‘my sites’ at the top left
-I click on ‘wp admin’ at the bottom left
-in the resulting page (which I assume is the classic editor, right?) I do all my add/edit posts/pages/media/etc.Lately I’ve been doing multiple posts on the same subject, like tutorials and progress of my latest cakes or builds or whatever, so copying the last one and having all the tags/categories already selected would make it easier.
I looked up online how to easily copy a post and found your support page which showed the ‘Copy A Post’ thing. It says ‘Writing Helper’ needs to be checked. I look- it is. I look at my own sidebar – great, sure enough, there’s the option.
I have 2 ways to access “Copy A Post”. I can hover over “Posts” from my Dashboard and see “All Posts/Add New/Categories/Tags/Copy A Post” and click it from there, or I can click on “Posts” and when the page refreshes I have that same list of 5 options each sitting there nicely for me in the left sidebar.
Clicking ‘Copy A Post’ from either method gives me the same result. I do NOT get what this page says I should get, a dialog box with the most recent posts or the option to search for the one I want.
I get the “Add New Post” page. Every time, on both my home laptop and work desktop. The link it takes me to is: https://jeloca.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php?cap#cap and it is just my ordinary, empty ‘new post’ page, blank and waiting for content.
I’ve also tried first going to ‘All Posts’ and checking the post I want to copy and THEN clicking ‘Copy A Post’, in case it was some kind of bug where I needed to select the post first. Nope. Got taken back to my Add New Post page.
I will point out that I’m currently a free user… but I assumed that since it was showing me the Copy A Post option that it would be available. If that’s not the case, please tell me.
Thanks so much for any help,
Jennifer

@jenniferlori , do you see this?
https://cloudup.com/cHgvCzAw1NYIf so can you click that down arrow on the Writing Helper bar? I’m not sure why it’s minimized on yours, but that’s where the Copy a Post feature lives.

Can’t use the Copy a Post either tonight. It was working yesterday fine.
It doesn’t do anything when I click on it under the classic editor in Writing Helper.
-
Tried it on Chrome and it works fine.
It’s on Firefox that it still doesn’t work.
The scrolling on the editor is not working well on Firefox either. The top info used to stay visible while scrolling down. Now it disappears. Maybe something is messed up with Firefox?
-
@supernovia Okay, yes, doing it that way, it works. A few more steps… I have to click on Writing Helper, and then ‘back’ next to Copy A Post (weird), and then the entire “Copy A Post” field, and THEN it opens up the selection menu.
Out of curiosity, if people are supposed to access it down there, why offer the links in the Post sub-menus? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to have that selection menu open directly when one clicks on CAP?
In any case, it works on my laptop (Chrome) doing it that way. I’ll try it out at work (Firefox) tomorrow.
Thanks!

@jenniferlori in most cases that box is already open; you must have inadvertently closed it at some point. Does it stay open for you now?
And you should be able to click Copy a Post or just use the built-in feature from a new post screen. I’m not sure why both options are available, except that perhaps people use both.

Copy a Post is still not working although nothing else seems to be working properly, so I will have to use Chrome in the meantime.

@aupernovia
I’m running windows 10 on 3 different computers with 3 different browsers FF44, Edge and IE 1. I just tested copy and post in FF44 and it worked for me. -

@timethief no worries :D Thanks for confirming!
It seems @jenniferlori’s issue was that that “box” was closed by default, for some odd reason. I didn’t get to work on @dandelionsalad’s issue, but I’m glad it is working now. Cheers, all!
-
Thanks, Supernova. My issues were my fault entirely as I made a change in Firefox that Firefox didn’t like. I changed it back and now everything works again except for a missing Add Location button. But I don’t use that feature so no worries there.
-
Perfect, thanks @dandelionsalad . If you want to start a new topic for the location button, you can do that.
I’ll go ahead and close out this thread. Cheers, all!
