Copy and pasting content into the new editor

I have a poetry blog. I copy and paste poems from WPS Writer into the editor. Frustratingly, the new editor puts every single line into a separate block. Poetry is about language and format. The new editor ruins the format.

  • Hi there,

This is expected, because the word processor you’re using to compose your poem uses a different type of code from the HTML code the editor uses, and the editor essentially has to make a guess at how to convert that code into HTML when you paste it. In most cases it’s pretty good at this, but poems tend to have very specific formatting, so the editor can easily get it wrong.

What might help in this case is to first paste your poem into a plaintext editor, like Windows Notepad. The copy it from there before pasting into the editor.

Also create a new verse-block in the editor first, and then paste the poem directly into that block, rather than just directly onto a blank line.

Or else consider just writing your poem directly in the editor from the start.

I’m certainly not going to compose poems in the editor! A poem goes through several drafts before it is ready to publish. :)

Whats a verse-block and how do I get one?

    Thanks,

    Kim

  • You can change the draft as many times as you want before publishing it. As for the Verse Block, it’s one of the blocks in the new editor, here is how it works:

Drafting then editing a poem can take months! :)

But thanks for your help. Still wont change form the classic editor, so much easier to use for what I need.

And easier to edit in HTML (I’m an old time techie, me)

I understand that, I have some drafts of posts since a year ago or longer, if you save the changes, they will just keep there :) You can also check the recent revisions.
Anyways, you’re welcome to use the Classic Editor if that works best for you.
