Copy right in blogs

I thought we could only claim copyright if everything in our blog, writings & pictures, is our own.
If that’s your real name and picture, be careful if you really want that information out. Many have regretted posting such information online. One woman here on the forum weeks ago was saying how she was being harassed and now regrets putting that information online.

Good point. I have a copyright, disclaimer, fair use page and as I told Sharon in this thread the copyright notice in my sidebar is linked to that page.
This in part is what it states:
All content in this blog created by the blog owner and her guest authors is the property of the blog owner and her guest authors and protected by U.S. and international copyright laws and cannot be stored on any retrieval system, reproduced, reposted, displayed, modified or transmitted in any form, electronic or otherwise without written permission of the copyright owner except as noted below. …
Disclaimer …
Fair Use Notice …

Part of my disclaimer is (lolol):
“This isn’t the New York Times and was never meant to be. If you’re looking for accurate journalism, you can leave and go somewhere else.”

I also have this preamble clause:
For copyright purposes, onecoolsitebloggingtips.com is not in the public domain. The fact that this blog owner publishes an RSS feed does not grant any rights for republication or re-use of the material except in the manner described below. …

Hi Pornstarbabylon and Timetheif, thankyou for your thoughts, I am however a little confused….
pornstarbabylon….I understand what you are saying….totally I have had a friend whose gone through similiar things, however, I think its nice that people can see who is doing the blog etc….and the only info I have given is my name underneath. However, as I have commented to my friend, how do people KNOW thats the real you…?
So my copywrite thing should cover it all should it not??

I’m not a copyright lawyer so I can’t give you the assurance you are seeking. If you want to be more confident about it these three options may suit (creativecommons, myfreecopyright, creators.icopyright).

Copyright applies to things we own that we either wrote ourselves or took the picture ourselves. If the picture isn’t really you or me, then we can’t claim copyright of anything that we don’t own outright. Just like the two actors’ pictures on your blog. You don’t own those two pictures. So you can’t really say on your blog “All content/photos etc on this site, belongs to the Author Sharon Harvey”.

Ahh, I seee what you mean pornstarbabylon….re the pics, same person….but I get what you mean by you saying that….I hadnt thought about that….thankyou for pointing it out to me though. What I was pointing out – or at least trying to..(till you brought that point to my attention!) was that all the content was mine, and no body could use it without prior asking me first? I have had previous dealings where I have posted things on the net, and my idea has been stolen and used as someone elses idea, which I think is very wrong, as you should always say that you have borrowed the content etc….which I guess I have doen the same, with the photos…..I presume I should be crediting the photos as ‘from the Internet’??

Hi guys, I have now amended my post to include right at the bottom….
(photos of George at the top of the article as himself and as ‘Hannibal in the A Team, courtesy of the Internet ) LINK :D
http://sharonharvey2.wordpress.com/
I think it spoils the article a little, but having said that, I guess it was only fair….since they werent mine, but I cant remember the source only on the Net hence my statement.
How does it look, does it still look right, or should I have made the statement somewhere else??
-
Those actor pictures are usually fair game and you don’t have to worry about. Link back to personal pictures or photographers’ pictures though. Especially link back to a picture/article belonging to another blogger! But if you took a picture or wrote something entirely yourself, yeah you can put the copyright notice at either the top or bottom of the post.

Well I know I got them from the internet, just cant recall where…it was not anyone website, only somewhere like you know when you search for images and they appear – that sort of thing.
I dont know how to do link back at the moment, or indeed understand them though I presuming from the title it means….maybe showing a link to the persons site (Like putting their URL?) unfortunately, but that said…..so after you wrote that about the photos, it reminded me that although its part of my work and although I have no idea who there owned by thought I had better add that so I didnt get into trouble, tho hoped it didnt spoil the article?
If I did borrow someones work from their blog, I would always ask permission first….and if for some reason couldnt ask them (No where to email leave comments etc) I would then leave a URL?
Well most of the things on my site are my own except the photos….so thought I had better put that after you commented on it….Thankyou
Maybe I need a copyright book to understand more lol!
