Copy the UX
-
I would like to make an exact copy of my existing website as far as the menus and other customization is concerned but under a different name using the same wordpress account.
Is this possible? If so how? -
Hi –
Click on My Sites – Add New Site
From there you can register a new, free site address. Or, click on the free plan option at the top of https://wordpress.com/pricing/You’ll be able to export and import all the content. That’s the posts, pages, comments, basically all the text.
The theme, and media will be a manual process.
What is your current site address? I can take a look and let you know which theme it is using to help you get started.

Thanks Lizkarkoski,
My site address is https://bricabrac892.wordpress.com
What I was looking at is creating another site with the same look and feel (customization if you will) with new posts / content under a different name.
Thing is I quite like what I did with this site and would like to replicate it.
Is this possible? If so how?
I know a bit of HTML but not much. Besides the Free plan does not offer much tweak room.
Of course, I’ll appreciate any suggestions / feedback on this site.

Hi there,
You can create a new site at https://wordpress.com/start/site/.
But there’s no way to automatically create an exact clone of your existing site. It’s possible to transfer content between sites using your import/export feature, but that will only copy your posts, pages and media files. Theme customizations and site settings cannot be copied from one site to another, so the only way to do that is manually. What I usually do is to open the two sites in different browser windows I place side by side on my screen, and then I work through the dashboard menu items from top to bottom, replicating the same settings on the new site.

Thanks Kokkieh!
Ok I have another question –
If I change my website name how will it affect posts already shared on social media? Will those links work?
Also I’ve read a lot about content disappearing when the name or domain name is changed.
I’m really worried about that so is there any way I can back up my free website without a plugin?
I’m a newbie at website building – a content writer by profession. I have all the content / blogs ready for going live. So want to be clear on how it works.

If you change your address from one free subdomain to another, the old links will not work anymore. You also won’t be able to use the old address ever again:
https://wordpress.com/support/changing-site-address/
On the other hand, if you purchase a plan and register a custom domain, the old links will still work but nobody will see the old address anymore as they will redirect to the new domain:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/register-domain/
I’ve read a lot about content disappearing when the name or domain name is changed.
The domain is just an address, it does not affect your site’s content. Changing the domain will not cause any content loss.
If you want to export all your content, you can follow these steps:

Thanks Fresatomica!
That clarifies things wonderfully but I’d still like to know if there’s any way to back up my free subdomain before forging ahead – just to be safe – along with all the UX I have created.
Also G Suite was automatically included in my plan at an additional cost – I haven’t paid yet – is that really necessary right now? How much functionality will I lose if I choose not to include it?

For that, you need to follow the instructions that @kokkieh already gave you:
https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/copy-the-ux/#post-3475466

G Suite will is only for email hosting. So if you want to have a yourname @ yourdomain . com address, you can purchase a G Suite license.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for answering my questions. One last thing –Where can I find a list of plugins available with the personal plan?
-
OOPS!
I upgraded to personal plan and it took my existing domain as my primary domain! I’d like to change it though. Is this possible? -
I though domain name was free with personal plan for the first year? Why is it asking me to pay for domain name registration.
-
My site link is https://bricabrac892.wordpress.com
Could you please check and let me know? I have made a payment of 2400 for the personal plan. Now when I try to register my domain name it says add 1350 for personal plan and get domain name free for the first year.
What did I do wrong?
Please help.
-
Thank you for the refund and cancelling my subscription.
Please share the next steps.
I would like to register my domain and purchase the personal plan.
Also please clarify the steps in case I need to upgrade before 1 year is up.

What functionality are you looking for? Plugins are compatible with the business and ecommerce hosting plan options as seen here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Regarding the domain, refund, and purchase… There’s no history of any payments on the account that you’re using here. You must’ve added those to a different user account. What domain are you working on?

Thanks lizkarkoski ,

I’m not really looking for a particular functionality – just a list of plugins that come with the personal plan. However, I would love to have the TOC functionality with the personal plan if possible.Yes. You can edit the primary domain. Click on My Sites – Manage – Domains
Yes I did that right after I posted my question. I went back to my website to see if I could do that and found that I could. So I did. I tried to change the domain to blog-your-niche.

As I said I had a free plan under https://bricabrac892.wordpress.com which I later changed to blog-your-niche. Not sure which domain worked but here are the details of the emails I received – (email visible only to moderators and staff)
FOR THE PAYMENT MADE –
[redacted]THE AMOUNT HAS BEEN DEBITED TO MY ACCOUNT BUT NO REFUND CREDIT SO FAR.
Could you please check everything and let me know what went wrong?

Plugins can only be installed on WordPress.com if you have the Business Plan Upgrade:
https://wordpress.com/business/
For more information on plugins on WordPress.com, please visit our support page:
TOC plugins are available from what I am seeing.

It took a second, but I was able to find the charge and subsequent refund in our system. The refund was processed on 5/15. It can take up to 7-10 business days for the refund to post to your bank statement.
Thanks,

Thanks darnelldibbles
That sure is a relief!
Yes you plugins are available but I guess I can only install them with a business plan?
And the same goes for other plugins too.
Right?Just one more thing. I think my primary domain is still bricabrac892?
As I said I tried changing it and the new name showed up in one email. So wanted to be sure.redacted the invoice information since this is the public forums.
I understand. Thanks for that. -
