Copying an existing post

When posting I often use the same outline for my posts with the same tags and the same categories. Why does the command – Copy a Post – not create a new post with the tags, title and categories carried across. I find that ‘copy’ is the same as adding a New post. Interestingly you have removed the ‘copy’ option from the new edit layout which I otherwise quite like!

Are you speaking of the menu item under Posts ->Copy a Post in the dashboard? I’ve wondered about that, as it nowhere gives one the opportunity to select the post to copy. What you want to do is create a new post by going to Posts ->Add New in the dashboard. In the post editor, look for the Writing Helper module (if you don’t see it, click on Screen Options at the top of the page and make sure it’s selected). Expand that module and select Copy and it will give you a searchable list of your posts to copy. If you do it that way it will work exactly as you describe in your question.

This has been mentioned in the main thread on the new editor and staff has informed us that the omission was intentional, i.e. they’ve deliberately removed that feature. They haven’t told us why. For now we still have the old editor with that option, so I’m sticking to using the old one. Many thanks for clarifying that – no wonder it didnt work for me. I assumed that the command copied the post I was working on or by selecting the post I wanted to copy on the “all posts page’. These seemed to be the logical steps!

I don’t think logic is always the primary consideration of the WordPress developers. The thread on the new editor is a case in point.
