copying my blog to different blogs

Hi all, I want to have my blog on 3 different urls. For example, testtheme.wordpress.com would have my blog using one theme, I would not change my existing theme, and then have a third blog with a third theme so that people could see the blogs side by side. I was thinking of puting a notice up on my homepage saying I’m thinking of changing my theme. Click here or here to see possible options, then come back here to vote. Then I’d have a pole asking which theme users liked the best. Here’s another question, can I have two questions on one pole or do I have to set up separate poles for each question? Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry if I wasn’t clear on my original question, how do I do this?

Duplicate content is like kryptonite to search engines. They will throw your blogs down a well because their first though is you are a splogger (spam blogger). The SE ranking on all blogs will virtually disappear.

Short answer: Bad idea, don’t do it.

Do a couple of screen shots of the different screens – be a problem if you have a lot of custom stuff but easy if you just want to see if visitors like the basic different Theme look.

If you do this, before importing the content, set the duplicate blogs to the middle option at settings > privacy so that search engines will not crawl those sites, and right after you make your decision, set those other blogs to private so there is no chance of the search engines picking them up.

Well, I was just going to delete the duplicates after a month or so, like you say, after I have made my decision. How do I duplicate my site in the first place? What about my question about poles?

Set the new sites as I suggest (block search engines), and then export your content from your main blog and import it into the other blogs (tools menu).

It almost might be worth only copy pasting a few posts and pages so that people can get an idea of what you are going for without fully duplicating the site.

Oh, I thought that that would just move your blog to the other site. How about my pole question?

You have to do two polls OR you have to use something other than Polldaddy; you can use Survey Monkey but it’s not embeddable on WP.com; you’d have to just link to it.

Ok, one last question before we call this topic resolved, is there a limit to how many poles you can have on one page?

  • Unknown's avatar

No, but the more you have the longer your blog will take to load. Each poll goes in another post, so it’s how many posts you’ve got to display at one time.

Oh, so if I just have one static page then I can only have one pole on that page?
