Copying my site and changing theme

I am trying to build a blog/website for a charity using the Twenty Ten theme. There are a large number of images which I want to display side by side, in a column etc to fit the size and shape of the images and am having real trouble.
Images seem to jump around the page, not staying where I’ve placed them. I’ve also tried mosaics but the whole mosaic will then move about the page.
I also keep being told there are later versions of my site even though I’ve just saved it and then get blank pages.
I want to copy the site to a new one (because I don’t want to lose what I’ve done) and maybe use a new theme more conducive to a site with lots of images.
Can anyone tell me how to do this and suggest a more appropriate theme – or is it just me?
I am using Firefox on a Windows 7 laptop – IE also seems OK, but Chrome doesn’t seem to like WordPress at all.
Any help or signposting to a suitable tutorial(s) would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
