Copying text from widgets
-
I saw a suggestion in this forum about copying your edited widgets into a text file to save them in case you lose them from your blog. I have tried to “copy&paste” … but find that I can’t highlight the text in a widget to enable me to copy it! Does anyone have any suggestions?

Click your mouse in the text entry box of the widget (reach this by going to Design>Widgets>edit button on the widget you want to copy)
Press Ctrl + A simultaneously and this will highlight all of the text
Press Ctrl + C to copy
Go to your text file and click inside the text entry area
Press Ctrl + V to insert the copied text
Save your text file. -
I have tried doing this but it won’t let me highlight the text! Nothing happens! And … if I want to delete any text within the widget, the only way is to back space and then type in my changes. I cannot “ctrl A + delete” or “ctrl A + ctrl C” … the Ctrl A is just not working!! :( It has been this way since I set up the blog and I had thought that was normal! Is there perhaps something wrong with my blog? I would really appreciate any more suggestions! Thanks

Crud, hit post too soon. Have you tried a different browser? Firefox, Safari, Opera all work on Windows.

Thanks so much for everyone’s help! I just opened in Firefox and “magic” I can now Ctrl A!!! And it works!!! All this time of typing manually into text files to save … and all I needed to do was open in another browser!!!! Woo hoo! I truly appreciate your help! And … just for your info … I also had another website that I frequently visited and wasn’t able to get the drop down menus … but had to manually surf through pages! I found that opening this website in Firefox also fixed this problem! Thanks again!
Kind regards, Andrea -
You’ve made sure that you’re free from adware/spyware/viruses? Make sure you’re up to date on your patches. It’s been a while since I used Windows, but I think you can uninstall and reinstall IE7. You might want to Google to make sure.
/me thanks the computer deities every day she no longer uses Windows
