Copying vs exporting: How do I copy content from one site to another?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m changing themes. I have to set up the content completely differently for the new theme. Pages have to become posts to show up the way I want them to.

I don’t want to slam followers with emails, so I created a private test blog to figure it out.

I need to copy all of the content of the old blog to the new, private blog. Exporting seems to move things. I want the old site to stay untouched while I re-create the new version, in the private blog, using the new theme.

How do I copy content from one blog to another without effecting the original site?

    Thanks,
    Nadine

    Hey Nadine,

A simple export from the old site, and an import into the new site would be your best bet. You can then copy/paste the content of any posts that you want to add to pages. Exporting will not empty the old site.

Your new site (I assume) doesn’t have any followers yet, so nobody will receive any emails when you import your content into it.
