Copying website to a managed WordPress plan
-
Hi, we want to sign up for a managed WordPress service. We currently manage our website on WordPress at http://www.m2amedia.tv, however sign up to a plan and transfer the domain and copy the website over.

Hi there, we’re happy to help. I’d recommend these steps:
1) Start a site and add a Business Plan. No need to specify a custom domain yet
2) Use the tool here to import the site: https://transferto.wordpress.com/self-hosted-wordpress-org/ (You may need to reconnect Jetpack first)
3) If you need help, you’ll have chat-based support with your plan
If you meant to move the site to just a Premium or Personal plan, you’ll need to transfer content without plugins and the theme, and then set up the site with a different theme that’s included in the services here. It’s a bit more work, but it’s doable, or if you want to hire someone to take care of it for you, we currently recommend this resource.
Does that help? If not, send more details and we’ll go from there.

Hi, when I try to sign up to the Business Plan, it says I need to transfer the domain over. We already manage the website on WordPress, but it’s a self-managed service at the moment. Do I still need to transfer the domain?

If you’re not ready to use the domain here at WordPress.com, you can skip that at this time. You’ll have a temporary domain to use while you configure your new site then when you’re ready you can assign your domain to the new site or transfer the domain in if you choose.
I hope that clarifies things!
