Copyright issue
-
In using illustrations of someone’s art work withouthis/hers permission, I’ve already witnessed quite nasty court order issues.
So I seriously started to approach artists for their personal permissions to use a work. On top of that I want to appease them with the promise that, once their art is on my weblog, visitors will not be able to copy the image in their turn. There exists a tool that blocks right-clicking and copy/pasting of images. Pics on Flickr accounts for instance have images with the file name ‘spaceball’…after copying, your download map only shows a blind jpg.Does anyone know more about this, and can it be installed in a .com blog, or is it only appliable to .org websites?

It can’t be installed on a blog here and it takes virtually no effort to circumvent. It is not an effective measure of protection. The Flickr thing, for example, would take me about 25 seconds and one click to get around.
I’m afraid you cannot give artists that promise. If it is online, it can be stolen.

There is no such feature on wordpress.com and even if it were, there’s nothing to stop people from making a screen capture using FastStone Capture or similar in any case. Blocking the right-click-and- save is making it a bit harder for people not to copy other folks’ pictures, but it is still 100% possible.

Ah yes…there goes the neighbourhood. Okay, I can spare myself the trouble, thanks for the info.
By the way, asking permission helps, from the return emails one often can smell that they are flattered. -
