Copyright issue with WordPress site
-
Hello,
I’ve found a few of my copyright films on a website and I wish to submit a DMCA takedown request. I’m not very tech savvy so this may be a silly question, but basically the site doesn’t have a wordpress.com URL but they are apparently a “WordPress blog”.
(I tried to subscribe to the site and received an email from wordpress asking me to confirm my follow.)
There is absolutely no contact info on the website and they’ve ignored my messages on twitter asking for contact info.Does anyone know if there’s a way to report them to wordpress? when I tried it said I couldn’t because it wasn’t a wordpress.com site.
Thanks

Hello!
This article discusses completely how to report copy write infringement. I will leave it to you to read the article and to be sure that your material is not fair use.
If you are not able to get in contact with the site owner directly, the next step is this:
5) Compose your formal notice and send it to the host.
When you submit a DMCA notice to a web host (WordPress.com or elsewhere), the person who published the reported materials has the right to review the notice in its entirety.
Please note that any infringement notices submitted via our DMCA takedown or trademark infringement processes may be forwarded to the party that made the content available, or to third parties such as ChillingEffects.org.Understand that when you submit a DMCA notice to a web host, they forward it in entirety to the owner of the specific blog/site publishing the reported materials, including any contact information you provide.
We recognize that you may not always be comfortable divulging your contact information to the user you’re filing against. In these instances, you can appoint an agent to submit the DMCA notice on your behalf. You can appoint anyone as the agent (lawyer, copyright consulting firm, colleague, friend, family member, etc.); just make sure that they provide valid contact information and identify you as the copyright holder they’re representing.
If the user believes they have legal right to distribute or publish the reported materials and that they were wrongly removed, they might file a DMCA counter notice. Unless you bring a lawsuit within 10 business days, the host or service provider is required to restore the material. You can review further information regarding counter notices and the restoration procedure at Chilling Effects.
If the allegedly infringing material is hosted at WordPress.com, you can use our DMCA takedown notice form that will help you provide all of the required information.
For sites not hosted at WordPress.com, if you aren’t sure how to compose a DMCA takedown notice, our form is a great place to start.
I hope this helps!

Hi there,
Does anyone know if there’s a way to report them to wordpress? when I tried it said I couldn’t because it wasn’t a wordpress.com site.
If the site is not on our servers, there is nothing we can do about them. If they’re using the self-hosted WordPress software, that doesn’t mean we have access to the site – anyone can use the WordPress software and install it on any server they want.
To have the content removed you will need to submit a takedown notice to the hosting provider for that site.

Silly me, I realised that the videos on the website in question were hosted by another streaming website anyway so all’s good. Thankyou for your help!
