Copyright Policy
-
Hi. I’m relatively new to WordPress, (just started in 2014) and have only got 5 posts done so far. But I was just wondering if I could have some clarification on Copyright infringement. It’s just that I’ve used some images and videos, with certain images showing up in Google searches, and I’m afraid that I may be in danger of copyright infringement.
I’ve followed the guidelines on inserting media http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-media/, but I was unable to find any details on copyright images.
At the end of each post I don’t claim ownership for any of the media used, but I was wondering if anyone could look over my blog, just to see if I either need to take anything down, or not.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That does not change anything at all. To get a blog here your agreed to the Terms of Service. If you violate copyright then the copyright holder can file a DMCA complaint and have it removed http://automattic.com/dmca/
but I was wondering if anyone could look over my blog, just to see if I either need to take anything down, or not.
No we will not be doing that for you.

I’ve removed any images which could be infringing on the copyright – and hopefully they’ll be taken down from the image searches as well.
In future, I’ll stick to free-domain images.
Thank You again for your help, and I’ll try to be more careful in future.

Although, after reading the terms and conditions, if I were in violation of Copyright, would I simply just have to remove it from my site?
I’m just unsure about how the process would work.
-
If a DMCA complaint were made then Staff would notify you and the content would have to be removed. If you had posted an image from one of the big guys like for example Getty images then they might even sue you.
-
OK. It was nothing like Getty Images, it was more a Doctor Who image which I referenced as being property of the BBC.
-
The only other thing, is that I’m wondering how long it will be before Google Images removes them. It seems that all my images that I’ve used show up when jkwightblogs is typed in.
-
IMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting blog content and deleting blogs does not remove any indexed content from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months.

From what I’m aware from the blog, all images are fully removed, and I can assume will be removed later on Google and Bing then.
Thank You again for your help.

Would it be possible for any moderator to remove this posted topic, or at least my website name – just so it doesn’t show up in Google Results when people do a search for it.
I’m just not sure if it’s professional for a website to declare its problems, and have them readily accessible in Google and Bing.
If it is possible, many thanks.

If the images are not hosted on your blog and are no longer in your media library, you should be fine.
-
They aren’t, although blog I have removed the jkwightblogs.wordpress.com address, and changed it to overanalysisweekly.wordpress.com.
I assume that the blog will be taken down from Google and Bing soon enough, but I was wondering if it would be at all possible to have this topic removed, for the reasons I’ve mentioned earlier. That and the blog I mentioned no longer exists.
-
Also, do youtube videos also have these media rules applied to them. I’d naturally assume not, because I thought it would simply act as a link to a video, but I’m not entirely sure.
Any clarification would be welcome.

We don’t delete forums threads, but this thread should not cause you trouble from the copyright front, so I wouldn’t really worry about it.
As for embedding YouTube and other video players, that’s completely fine. As long as you are embedding an existing player, the onus of ownership is on the person who uploaded the video, not on you. If they are in violation of copyright, YouTube will remove the video and no one linking to it would be held liable (your video embed would simply stop working).
