OK. That’s great.
One last thing, as the old site address has been deleted, I was wondering how long it would take to stop showing up in search results? – seeing as I don’t think it produces a 404 page. -
That’s up to each search engine to remove the site from their cache.
For Google, at least, you can speed up the process by following the instructions here:

OK. I also read something about the URL removal tool, but that may not be what I’m looking for.
I’ll certainly look into that link. Thanks.

For the images, I’ve mostly been using the advance search setting “Free to use, share, or modify”. So I assume that those images should be perfectly acceptable to use.

Yes, those images will be fine.
As timethief linked earlier, we have a support document that lists many sources for free images you can use: http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-media/finding-free-images-and-other-media/
Some images may have restrictions, such as only for non-commercial purposes, attribution required, etc. but each site should explain those licenses for you to review.
-
Well, the majority on the results page were wikimedia links, and from what I’ve seen those should be fine.
The only major exception I’ve come across so far is for flickr and deviantART, where I think you need to link those in to their website, or credit the artist/ photographer.
-
As I recall, individual Flickr and DeviantArt users can specify how their work is licensed, and just because they have posted photos or other work it does not mean you can necessarily use it even with attribution. I mention this just as a caution.
