Copyright written word 1907 author died 1930.
-
I want to start a new blog and have a paragraph of an author’s work as the lead item/introduction. The book was written in 1907 and the author died in 1930. Is it legal for me to do this as it is over firty years since their death?
I am also using the book title, but I beleive this is ok as there is no copyright on titles.
Thanks for your help
Martin

My understanding is that if the author has been dead for 70+ years their works become public domain unless someone else renews the copyright. You might do some research on copyright.gov to make sure, though.

Disclaimer – I am not a lawyer – one paragraph if you properly attribute where the quote came from I would not think would be an issue.
