Coraline: can body scroll but not side menu?
-
That’s it, my question – the one in the topic title.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is this a CSS editing question? I’m asking because we can insert scrollbars into posts pages and use them in text widgets too.

Hm. Well, yes; now I come to think of it, I suppose it is, timethief.
Didn’t think in advance of the categorisation. :-
Perhaps I should’ve been more specific, eh? – thus:
I want the body of the blog to scroll, while the menu remains static. BUT! – as one cannot see the entire menu anyway, I need a SECOND scrollbar for the menu.
I could well have a go at your link there (thank-you!); but that’s kind of the secondary part: the major requirement is to be able to scroll the body with the menu staying obdurately there … -
Well now, yes I have. In fact, I played around with the Hum live demo a fair bit: but in the end decided that I really like having a picture in the header.
Timepiece not wanted because I like the 2-column layout.
I’m just going to play with Hum again … but my questions still stand re scrollbars: if not for you – as we both know :-) – then for someone else. But, as you pointed out, I should move to the css forum. OK, will do.
Thanks again, me old china… -
Naah, timethief: Hum puts all my menu stuff at the bottom, where it’s useless.
Thanks for the thoughts, anyway! -

And now, she said relentlessly, I have just attempted to change my fonts within the extremely expensive customisation thingy AND IT WON’T WORK!!!
Struth, I think I might lose my temper … -
Oh it’s alright – it just took FIVE MINUTES to effect the change.
Words fail (you’ll be happy to learn). -
So you mean you want a sidebar that stays fixed in the browser window and only moves if you drag its own scroll thumb. Yes, that’s possible via CSS editing, but it’s ugly and it doesn’t help visitors in any way, so I suggest you forget it – and I’m sure timethief will agree.
-
Guess what, Panos? – you’re going to want to throttle me …
I just switched to Chateau, after all – and I’m RAPT!!!
Not the foggiest idea why I didn’t see its potential. Probably because I’m a halfwit. Yeah, that’d do it.
So you can forget all about anything to do with Coraline – as can, of course, the unfortunate timethief and houstonweaver. I feel guilty, ladies, believe me …!
But there were just so many things I needed to do. And then I came across your post about Coraline, Panos – and the scales fell from my eyes! (grin)
So I believe that AT LAST I’m almost completely satisfied. Just one last little thing: how do I change the black background in the footer widgets, please? – presoomably with css, alas. -
a) You mean my post on why Coraline was invented? If so, welcome to WP!
b) In case you haven’t done so already: when you switch to a different theme you must delete everything in the CSS editor and start afresh.
c) CSS questions must be posted in the CSS forum (so that they’ll be available to others looking for the same answer). -

For the Chateau theme, you can change the background of the footer widgets section like this:
#upper-footer-widgets .footer-widget { background: red; }Change the color name to a color code of your choice:
http://0to255.com/Right now, you only have one footer widget. If you add more, you can look around in the HTML to see what else gets added in the “footer-widget” section if you’d like to apply a background color to a different selector.

Quick update on this one, CSS is now saved per theme and if you switch themes the CSS is still saved in revisions but it is removed from the editor since it probably won’t work for the new theme. In other words, you no longer need to delete manually like that.
