Corporate Space for Staff Blogs

We are a higher education institution (college) and hose a proprietary CMS for our main, public website.

However, we would like to give our staff and faculty the option to run their own personal blogs.

Currently these are running on Blogger, but obviously WordPress is better and we are considering migrating.

Our major concern is being able to brand (custom design) template(s) which our users could select from if they want to make their site look like our main College website, using our Logo, colors, etc…

Our second desire is to have a “corporate area” where our staff or faculty could go to create these sites on their own, and then be given access to our custom branding options for their sites…

Finally, it would be really beneficial if we could use a Single Sign On approach for WordPress.com and our current systems (LDAP or Active Directory), but I understand this is probably a too tall order.

Is there a way to accomplish these ideas using WordPress.com?

I’ve VERY aware of self-hosted WordPress websites as I’ve launched well over 100 WP sites, but I’ve never used WordPress.com before.

Any direction on this front would be greatly appreciated.

You should contact WordPress.com support for that. They have some cool options for huge sites. Contact staff directly at support@wordpress.com
This forum is for technical help, not for business help (what if it’s educational spam?).
