Corrupted page – displays only groups.

  • Unknown's avatar

    My about page was designed such that every section was embedded in a block group. I went to edit my About page and somehow it became corrupt. I tried to reload the pages history to get a non-corrupted page. Every attempt to use a previous version of the page failed. I had to completely rebuild the page.

    I’m a web developer and started to work with WordPress site in 2018.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey there,

    Many thanks for reaching out!

    I’ve taken a look at the about page, and I can’t see that behaviour. If you were to clear the browser cache, does this clear? https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

    Also, just to check – it looks like there’s some browser extensions in use there, what are they exactly?

    The reason why I ask is because it has been known for browser extensions to intefer with how the editor operates.

    Many thanks!

    I had to rebuild the whole page. I had the same problem again today on the Footer. I had to rebuild that too.

    The only extension I use is Malware-bytes.

  • Hey there,

    Very strange – what actions were conducted before you experienced that?

    Also, did this happen with a different browser?

    So, I like to use ‘group’s. All of my sections of content is placed within a ‘group’. Initially, I was adding the paragraph above the map on the ‘About’ page. This was being edited with the Edge browser.

    It happened again this morning with my ‘Home’ page. I was using the block editor on the ‘Comments’ section, trying to set the alignment on the ‘Columns’ block with the Edge browser. Going into the ‘Code Editor’ it looked as follows:

    <!– wp:group {“layout”:{“type”:”constrained”,”wideSize”:”1000px”}} /–>

    <!– wp:group {“layout”:{“type”:”constrained”,”wideSize”:”1000px”}} /–>

    <!– wp:group {“layout”:{“type”:”constrained”,”wideSize”:”1000px”}} /–>

    <!– wp:group {“layout”:{“type”:”constrained”,”wideSize”:”1000px”}} /–>

    <!– wp:group {“layout”:{“type”:”constrained”,”wideSize”:”1000px”}} /–>

    <!– wp:group {“layout”:{“type”:”constrained”,”wideSize”:”1000px”}} /–>

    <!– wp:spacer –>
    <div style=”height:100px” aria-hidden=”true” class=”wp-block-spacer”></div>
    <!– /wp:spacer –>

    It seems to like to corrupt on the ‘group’s.

  • Hello there,

    I exited the code editor and checked the homepage. At the moment, I don’t see errors with how the page looks.

    When you mention it looks “corrupt” on the groups, can you explain a little more about that? Does the current visual display of the homepage look off?

    Also, have you tried any browsers besides Edge?

    By the time you look at it, I’ve repaired it.

    It’s happened again. Went from ‘all posts’ and copied a post and this is what I see:

    The ‘group’ was an image gallery of sixteen images. This is what I see when I go into ‘code editor’:

    <!-- wp:group {"layout":{"type":"constrained","wideSize":"1000px"}} /-->

    <!-- wp:paragraph -->
    <p>Contains sixteen photos of the loop trail. These photos were taken on January 26, 2023.</p>
    <!-- /wp:paragraph -->

    I looked at an Export of the site from April 28th and the original post that I copied was already corrupted.

    This is very annoying!

    We would like to know if this problem is specific to the Edge browser or if it occurs in other browsers as well. This will help us better understand the situation and provide you with appropriate assistance. Thank you for your cooperation!

    As you folks indicated Edge and Chrome share the same engine. The problem seems to revolve around the ‘group’ block.

    I currently have 50 tabs open in my Chrome browser, so I have less number of tabs open in Edge. I’m currently working on writing my own Gutenberg blocks, which in my case requires a lot of research.
