Could anyone here help me to get rid of my email followers?
-
Basically, there is a family member from Australia who reads my blog posts through email, and I don’t want him to read them. I made the mistake of putting the – email address box in my home page (which I have deleted now) and I used to think I could get rid of him easily, but to my horror it’s way too difficult.
Could the WordPress team help me get rid of my email subscribers?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There are a few questions that I have.
If it is not possible for you all to delete my email subscribers ( or that particular subscriber who subscribed this july) then I am thinking that the problem might be solved if I selectively migrated my WordPress reader followers into another website, without letting the email subscribers join in.Do you think this would be possible?
Another possible solution I found was- banning the entire country using a plugin, however it seems it would take over 299$s to upgrade to a business website and then get the plugin to ban, and I can’t spend that much amount just to ban someone.
So what do you think?

I also tried to make my blog private, however, I found that none of my followers will be able to see my posts, likewise it will also not appear in the WordPress reader. So putting my blog as private is also not what I want.

Hi there,
You can remove any follower on your site from My Site ->Users ->All Users. Click on the email followers tab, and remove the follower.

However, there is no way to prevent that person from just following you again. Even if you don’t display an email subscription form on your site, anyone can still subscribe to email notifications via the WordPress.com action bar that appears in the bottom-right corner of your site. And nothing prevents that person from just creating their own WordPress.com account and using that to follow you directly in the Reader either.
The only way to control who can view your site is to set it to private. Then only people you specifically invite as viewers will be able to view and subscribe to the site.
Using a plugin to block someone based on their location also isn’t a solution, as those are very easy to circumvent by simply using a VPN.

The person that I want to remove doesn’t appear in the email followers.

There are 2 followers here, and they are not the ones that I want to remove. The person that I want to remove is still getting emails of my posts although he is not shown here. To check whether this is true, I followed my blog with another email. That email is also getting my blog posts although it doesn’t show up in the list of email followers.
In my stats, it is clearly seen that he is viewing my posts from Australia.
So, the problem is, I am unable to remove him even once. Since it doesn’t show up, is it possible for you guys remove him for me?
If he follows me in the reader, then can’t I just block his website? I have 1 website that I have blocked.
Also, do you think that I could migrate my followers to another website without including that person?

If the person does not appear in your follower’s list, it means they are not subscribed to your blog.
In the email followers, you will only see those followers who don’t have a WordPress.com account and only get your posts via email.
Which email address did you test this with? If you post it in its own line, the forum’s software will redact it, so it’s only visible to WordPress.com staff. As mentioned above, the only way to control who visits your site is switching it to private and inviting the current followers as viewers:
-
My problem is not that he will visit my website. He can visit it as much as he wants as there is very little to see.
My problem is, he will read my posts. Since he is probably subscribed by email, he gets my post directly into his email.
The email that I tested is this email-
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
In the email followers, this email is not there.
But every time I hit publish in my blog post, it gets sent to this email. If I wanted to remove this- (email visible only to moderators and staff) email address, which is not in my email followers but is getting my blog posts, what should be done? Can you all look into it? There might be other similarr emails too which is receiving my blog posts but is not in email followers.
-
If I could remove him from my email, then the only way he would be able to see me is from the reader. He cannot see my posts from my website as well as there is no post page.
-
One question I have is- Is it possible to selectively migrate your followers to another website? Migrate only the WordPress follower and not the email followers, is it possible?
-
The email address you tested with belongs to a WordPress.com account, so it won’t show as an email subscriber.
Instead, it’s a WordPress.com follower with email delivery switched on.
What is the email address specifically you’re trying to remove?
Please also keep in mind that, as long as your site is available to the public, they can simply subscribe again.

Thank you for pointing that out. The email that I tested with is indeed a wordpress account, and is also visible among my wordpress followers.
Which might mean that the person that I want to remove might be a wordpress follower secretly as he doesn’t show up in the email follower. Or may be he is using URLs . It might be possible that he is not seeing my latest articles, I don’t know.
Right now I don’t know what his email address is, all I know is that in the stats a ton of views is from Australia and he checks a lot of my articles in my homepage like the curious and annoying person he is ( which might be done from URL).
Since the post page is unavailable, ofcourse the articles he sees is highly restricted.
With the URLs and such things, I don’t care how many articles he sees. My main worry is that he might have access to my latest posts which is visible only and only to my followers in wordpress or email.
Thank you for your support for now.
Now I know that if he truly follows me and has access to my latest articles, he will be visible either among the wordpress followers, or among the email followers, I feel relieved. Now that I think of it, he might be creating the large number of views just from the homepage or the urls of past articles. -
One last possibility of he seeing my latest articles is this one-
I had my articles showing up in my twitter account. WordPress stats easily shows you who is viewing your latest articles by clicking the twitter links. The guy might be seeing my latest articles through twitter but instead of clicking the link, he might be copying the link address ( due to which in the stats it doesn’t show that the views are from twitter).
For now, there is a possibility that he might not have access to my articles and the views might be just from the homepage or urls, so I feel relieved. Unless I have a good reason to worry about this, I think the issue has been resolved.
