Could someone please help?

I know that this is not the forum for plugins, but I cant get an answer that I can understand
on support.org.and you have always helped me before, so here goes.
Plugins: I cannot seem to be able to download plugins properly that they will show up on my blog.
    I download the plugin
I use windows extract wizard, and then I click on the file that I see on that window, and then
it shows the extracted content from the plug in. I do get 2 windows showing I dont know why
but I delete them both. Then I see the extracted file on my desktop and I go to my FTP and upload. I can see the files being uploaded but when I go to my blog they dont show. I noticed that it shows as a sub dir. on the remote site. is that wrong?
I am going crazy trying to get this right as I know it is simple, but I am doing something wrong.
    thank you. Charade.

Go here and a little ways down on the page are instructions for installing plugins.

    Hey charade,

thing is this is using a different software and I don’t think many here can help you.

You had a look at the documentation? http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

Sorry, tsp, took too long typing. :)

Not a problem. I’ve been perusing the codex today and knew where it was for the blogger.

Thanks guys but funnily enough I understand the instructions on the link you gave me what I am not doing right is the actual unzipping of the plug in to get to the FTP stage !!
When a download is unzipped with the ‘wizard’ , do you use the ‘extract files’ on the wizard
and then should that be the files extracted without clicking on anything else?
It is so hard to explain what I am asking, I know.
I guess it refers to anything that is extracted on the windows wizard.

Typically inside the unzipped (extracted) folder will be a “readme” file. Double click on that file and it will open in notepad or textedit. Read that file to see what you upload to your plugins directory and then upload what it says (typically that will be the entire folder you got when you unzipped it). Also see if there are any special instructions. Sometime you have to modify other files for the plugin to work properly.
