Could the post codes instructions be more clear?

    The following instructions appear at the bottom of the entry window when posting in this forum…

    Is it only me?

    What the heck do they mean?

    I have been in IT for 28 years, yet it is so ambiguous… I cannot figure it out.

    Allowed tags: a em strong code ul ol li blockquote.
    Put code in between backticks.

    Why do they use the words “tags”… When they obviously mean “codes”… “Tags” are words to help someone find your topic. “Codes” are embedded codes to format the text.

    Does that mean… I can use codes like:
    [ul]for the words[ul]

    Or does it mean that I put these codes between backticks… like:
    ulfor the wordsul

    Well, neither seems to work.

    So am I an idiot?

    Or could the instructions be written more clearly?

    If that’s a picture of you as your avatar, you look mighty young for having been in IT for 28 years. ;)

    In HTML, a em strong and the rest are called HTML tags.

    AHHHHhhhhh…. HTML tags….

    Ok.

    I really have been in IT for 28 years… but, obviously, I am not an HTML coder…

    My suggestion to Team WordPress is:

    Change “Allowed tags:” to “Allowed html tags:”

    If it had said that, I would have understood immediately.

    Obviously, I assumed it was referring to it’s OWN system of text formatting codes…

    Believe it or not… Not everyone is an html coder…

    I never even heard of ’em’ before now…

    Best bet would be to submit a feedback from your dashboard with this suggestion. That way staff is sure to see it.

    Not a problem. It still should go in as a feedback once they come back online.

    edit: You can also send in an email to support at this domain but right now, it’s just emergency services on the weekend. Best bet would be to wait until the full staff is available.

    I want to re-iterate something.

    Support might be checked but unless it’s a blog breaking I will not answer.

    I read the forums. Matt does, everyone else does.
    If it’s written here I would be amazed if we all missed it :)
