Couldn't find wp-config.php in twenty ten – trying to disable auto-updates

  • Unknown's avatar

I did a search on google and bing for “wp-config.php in twenty ten” and couldn’t find anything – also searched similar terms including “auto-update” – I’m trying to disable auto-updates for a site using twenty – ten theme. I went to “edit” and I don’t see any file with that name (wp-config.php ) – Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • The config file is not inside the theme, it’s in the root of your WordPress install. Please be very careful editing that file as you can take your site down. :)

Thank you for the reply but where am I finding this config file?
If I go into the admin area of any wordpress site I am supposed to edit by going into –
    “Appearance”
    than
    “Editor”
than I look to the right and I see all the files.
I don’t see this wp-config.php file at all. Please help.
    Thank you.
    Tom

    Also, just so you know…
if I click on the link you sent
    https://wordpress.org/support/
which I have done before I came here AND
I go to that page. The only thing I see that remotely comes close to a forum is the middle left of the page where it says
“Our community-based Support Forums are a great place to learn, share, and troubleshoot.

    Get started”
    So I click “Get started”
than it takes me to a page where it says
“Welcome to the official blog for the WordPress Support team.

Need help with a WordPress issue? You can find help with your WordPress problem by posting in the support forums or asking on the #wordpress IRC channel.”
Now “support forums” is a hot link so I click on it and guess what…
it takes me back to the first page I started on.
Just wonderful. I am a web designer and I have to tell you. I hate computers, I hate the internet, and I hate the fact that answers are almost always hard to come by. Almost all software comes with a “help” section (from pro-tools to photoshop) and many times this is useless. You have to google it or look on youtube for an answer. Why? Because the help section doesn’t have a simple answer to either a simple question or a one or two word phrase. I call it revenge of the nerds. The techies have made EVERYTHING sooooo difficult when it could be so much easier. I happily anticipate the end of modern civilization and a return to the 1800’s. Sorry for venting … but I am soooo tired of constantly finding dead ends and no answers to simple questions (where is the wp-config.php file in twenty ten theme? is it actually there?)
thank you and have a wonderful day,
    Tom

  • Hi there, that does sound frustrating! The Installation forum is probably the best place to ask your question:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forum/installation/

If you scroll down, you’ll see a form where you can add your question, or you can go directly to the form here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forum/installation/#new-post

(where is the wp-config.php file in twenty ten theme? is it actually there?)

No, that file is not in any theme. It’s in the root of your WordPress install, at the same level as the wp-content folder. You might find this guide helpful.

    Good luck! :)
