Countdown?
-
Does anyone know of anyway that I could put a real time countdown on my wordpress.com blog?
-
This previously came up when a blogger wanted to post a birthday countdown for a child. I believe that the only ones that could be found at the time were javascript or in frames neither javascript or frames are allowed on our shared wordpress multi-user MU blogging platform for security reasons. I have three suggestions
(1) use the forum search box to locate the previous threads, perhaps a non javascript version was found and I just don’t remember it
(2) search the web for one that is coded in html so your can put it into a text widget and place it in your sidebar.
(3) provide a link to one like this on the web in your blog http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcount.html -
Heck, I can’t find the thread either.
Are you trying to use a specific service for the countdown? As per TT’s post, user inputted javascripts are banned due to security concerns. (It would be easy to lift the browser cookies that contain your login information) All the ones that I know of at javascripted base since an animated gif wouldn’t work in this case. It needs to be fed and that requires javascript.

you can also generate one at
http://www.7is7.com/otto/countdclock.html
and paste into a text box.i’ve juts added one on my page – click the “Number of days left”
-
The Raw URL and W3C button produce a link that will work here. Granted though, it’s a link that a vistor would have to click on to see the clock.

thanks everyone for the help. its too bad that there isn’t one that you could have right on your site and they wouldn’t have to click on it.

Timethief has acted me to make one for my own WPMu install. If I have the time to actually create it, I’ll go ahead and submit it to WP.com although, since the one you point at is offsite and if everybody used it, it would kill their bandwidth, I don’t know how it would go over with staff.
Seems fairly straight forward.

I sort of found a way to insert a countdown. However, it is static. You need to refresh the page to see the new values.
It uses PHP, the GD library and the function “imagettftext”.
See it work at:http://floridarevivaltour2007.wordpress.com/
[Moderator’s warning: adult blog – drmike]It gives the number of days until my trip to Florida (Feb 9, 2007) ;-) and a more detailed countdown underneath.
Anyone interested let me know here, I will email you the details. -

OK the picture in today’s post is a bit much (I’m not the author of this post by the way). But that’s the only one, and it was not there when I posted my message on this forum yesterday. Sorry if I offended anyone. It was not my intention. But for your info, my blog is NOT a porn site at all.
