Counter is Confusing

Admittedly, I have very few hits, so maybe it just got bored or something. :) It is internally inconsistent. I had a sudden surge of 25 hits, 4 to one post and 3 to the other.
Then, though I usually got at least one hit per post, the next 4 or 5 posts received not one hit.
Am I failing? This happened at the same time of cross-over posting, so I assumed the surge of 25 was related to that. Then I began to imagine I was being punished for hits I hadn’t earned…., okay, that’s too far. http://sobiop.wordpress.com

I probably should have entitled this differently. People probably think I’m too dumb to read it. Also, I noticed another blog, she said she’d been up for a week and was surprised to find that she’d had 200 hits. Thrilled, but surprised. I was just wondering if it was the same issue–not that I’m trying to take away her hits or anything….oh, it is all just going downhill.

The counter is not counting unique individual readers it is counting page views. For example if I read 4 pages on your blog that stats would reflect 4. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/02/09/questions-about-stats/
You can also get a free stats counter from a third party http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/07/28/can-i-have-a-statcounter-on-my-blog/
And there’s a discussion thread in the off-topic forum on stats https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=9571 -
I’ve been doing some other reading. I understand what you said.
If they simply come to the blog itself, I would not see a count per post? But I would see an increment on the total?
There was no referral either. So it would be a typed in URL?

If my understanding is correct, then at least two things are also correct.
1. I was too dumb to understand it.
2. I am failing.Ooooohhhh,,,,,
